The wireless ones are great to install but setting up can be a pain due to bad internet/bluetooth connections.

CED Electrical answered the question "What different types of CCTV camera are there?"
The 9 most popular types of CCTV cameras available are: Dome CCTV Cameras: • This is the best type of CCTV camera for shops, restaurants, casinos and hotels because the design allows you to monitor a wider angle at your premises. Many also consider this option to be the best indoor CCTV camera as it can be placed on a strategic point of the ceiling to cover all angles of the room. Bullet CCTV Cameras: • Bullet cameras can be used to good effect in a range of industries such as manufacturing, property management and farming. They not only record good quality pictures but also send out a message to passers-by that your premises is under surveillance. That’s why they have traditionally offered the best CCTV for outside operation. C-Mount CCTV Cameras: • This is the ideal camera for observing a stretch of road on the approach to your premises. It is therefore popular in the utilities and logistics industries. Those operating in the food and manufacturing industries may also elect for this option, due to the camera’s reliability in extreme temperatures. PTZ Pan Tilt & Zoom Cameras: • This is the best CCTV camera for remote viewing. It is really popular in large retail environments and is regarded as the best CCTV for business premises that have a specific valuable object to protect. For example, a museum could program the camera to pan to a particular entry or exit point when it detects movement. So even when it is not being controlled remotely, the camera can cover a much larger area and do the same job of several static cameras. Day/Night CCTV Cameras: • There are various CCTV camera types suited to outside use but the extra sensitive imaging makes this one unique. It is therefore the ideal CCTV system for business premises that require round the clock CCTV monitoring in an outdoor environment with varying light conditions. Infrared/night vision CCTV Cameras: • This is the best CCTV camera for night vision functionality. It’s therefore the ideal choice for those who need ultra-reliable recording in complete darkness. For example, banks, farms and manufacturing plants. Network/IP CCTV Cameras: • A network or IP CCTV camera is the ideal choice for business owners who are often away from site and on the move. Footage can be viewed from anywhere in the world, via a PC, laptop or mobile phone. Wireless CCTV Cameras: • If a spotless presentation is important in your industry, wireless CCTV cameras are a great security option. Their discreet appearance helps them to blend into the interior. What’s more, there is less set up and camera maintenance required, and footage is transferred via the internet for convenient access. High Definition (HD) CCTV Cameras: • High definition cameras are particularly useful for use in environments where there is a high risk of theft. Businesses such as banks and casinos should opt for HD cameras, in order to ensure that visitors to their premises are captured in perfect clarity. The footage recorded will be able to provide undeniable identification in the event of a crime being committed.

I have listed below some of the main types of CCTV cameras there are on the market: Dome Cameras, Turret Cameras, Bullet Cameras, PTZ Cameras, C-Mount Cameras, IP/ Network Cameras, Varifocal Cameras, High Definition Cameras, IR Cameras, Wireless CCTV Cameras Analogue Vs IP: Analogue cameras have overall lower quality than IP cameras, but perform better in low light conditions. Analogue cameras have more limited site ranges and don't offer the zoom-in clarity of IP cameras. If you zoom in on the analogue images, you're going to get a grainier, degraded picture In Short: IP cameras typically feature better picture quality, advanced recording features, and the capability of connecting a larger number of cameras to the system, when compared with the older Analogue CCTV systems Up Grading An Existing System: Hybrid (Analogue + IP) CCTV Systems. A hybrid CCTV system can help you expand your existing analogue CCTV system while using latest-generation IP cameras and software, without having to overhaul your entire infrastructure at a considerable cost.

Choosing a home security camera may seem like a reasonably straightforward process at first, but with all the different options available it can become a little overwhelming. Thanks to advances in video, wireless, and smart technology, there are many types of surveillance cameras each with advantages and disadvantages. Navigating the market requires first understanding some basics about the different security cameras and how they fit your security needs. Types of security cameras: Bullet cameras Dome cameras IP cameras Indoor & outdoor cameras Wired, Wireless, and Wire-Free Smart, voice integrated cameras Although there are types of security cameras the most popular are bullet, dome, and IP cameras. A few differentiating factors to look for in security cameras is if they can be used indoors or outdoors, and if they are wired, wireless, or wire-free. Bullet and dome cameras are both named for their shape and are two of the most commonly used CCTV camera types. Many cameras can be used both indoors and out; however, there are some specific features you want to look for in outdoor cameras. Bullet Cameras Bullet Camera AdvantagesBullet cameras are named for their long cylindrical shape, which vaguely resembles a bullet. The distinctive appearance is highly recognizable providing a visible deterrent to intruders – the primary benefit as burglars are more likely to choose a different target location if security cameras are visible. However, as they are more easily discernible, they are also more prone to vandalism than dome cameras. The cylindrical shape also allows you to focus on a fixed view, such as certain entry or exit points. However, as you only have one fixed view, you may require multiple cameras. Bullet cameras are easily mounted on a wall or ceiling, indoors and out. At the tip of a bullet camera is a small lip or cover which adds weather protection and reduces glare, making them ideal for outdoor use. Dome Cameras Dome Security CameraLike bullet cameras, dome cameras have a unique shape; however they are more discreet than bullet cameras. Often referred to as ceiling cameras, dome cameras are commonly used indoors but can also be used outside. Dome cameras include many of the same features as bullet cameras but provide different advantages. Specifically, dome cameras tend to have a wider viewing angle. In addition, dome cameras are also more resilient towards tampering and vandalism compared to bullet cameras. As with bullet cameras, dome cameras are easily installed indoors and outdoors and can be mounted on walls or ceilings. Both bullet and dome-shaped cameras can have night vision, heat and motion sensing technology, two must-have features of modern security cameras. Additionally, they can be either connected to a DVR or NVR recorder. Wireless IP Cameras Wireless cameras, also known as wireless IP cameras, collect and stream data over the wireless network. As such, IP cameras connect to your home wifi network allowing you to view your security footage from anywhere. WIthin IP security cameras you’ll find wired, wireless, and wire-free IP cameras. The core differences are in how the cameras are powered. Wired vs. Wireless vs. Wire-Free Security Cameras Although the names may be intuitive, there are distinct differences between wired, wireless, and wire-free security cameras. Wired security cameras are the most traditional type of surveillance camera. Wired cameras are directly connected (wired) to a recorder which connects to your router and the internet. Depending on the wired security camera, it may also require a separate power cable. Wired cameras need to be connected to a DVR or NVR recorder to store and view the security footage. A common misconception is that wireless also means it’s wire-free. Wireless security cameras still require a power cord. Wire-free cameras are battery powered security cameras that are 100% cable free. Wire-free security cameras are the easiest to install, and security footage is stored in the cloud. As battery operated cameras, the batteries will require charging. Learn more about the advantages and disadvantages of wired, wireless, and wire-free security systems. Smart, Voice Integrated Cameras The newest security cameras on the market are integrating with the most popular voice assistants, for a complete smart home system. Voice commands can be used to control and monitor your wireless security system, completely hands-free. By integrating fully with existing smart-home devices, voice-controlled home security offers more flexibility, ease of use, and comprehensive coverage for the user. Swann’s line of smart security cameras integrates with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Indoor & Outdoor Cameras Although a number of security cameras can be used both indoors and outdoors, there are a few key elements to consider when selecting your cameras. Often, indoor and outdoor security cameras have many of the same features such as infrared night vision and remote viewing. The main differences lie in durability. Outdoor security cameras must be weather resistant if not waterproof. We recommend that you choose security cameras which have an IP66 or IP67 weather resistance rating to ensure they are the most durable and in fact weatherproof. Bullet cameras are an ideal outdoor camera due to the enclosure at the tip of the barrel which helps minimize glare. In addition, outdoor cameras with infrared sensing vs. motion detection are the better choice. Cameras that only use motion detection are often triggered by many meaningless events, such as a tree blowing or dog running by. Today, most security cameras utilize infrared heat technology which means they are only triggered when sensing heat (from cars or people). IR sensing means alerts will be less frequent and more accurate. In addition to the different types of security cameras, users can choose various features from, such as night vision, and resolutions. Security cameras range in resolution from 1080p Full HD to 4K Ultra HD. The key difference between the resolutions is image quality and zooming ability. Learn more about how to choose the right resolution for your security needs. With a clear understanding of the different types of surveillance cameras, you will be able to choose the best cameras to protect and monitor your property. Keep in mind you can mix and match the different security cameras to customize your home security solution. The first step is evaluating your home security risks.

Complete-wiring-solutions answered the question "What different types of CCTV camera are there?"
1. Infrared cameras IR cameras are often referred to as day/night cameras. As the name suggests, they are capable of capturing images during the day or the night, and so provide 24 hour surveillance. In the day an infrared camera will behave like a normal camera, capturing coloured images and video. At night, or in low light or even no light environments, the camera will capture images and video in monochrome. In environments with decreased visibility, infrared cameras will flood an area with infrared light from infrared leds positioned around the outer edges of the camera lens. Therefore, IR cameras are most appropriate for monitoring low or no light areas, or for providing 24 hour surveillance. These types of camera are often found car parks and are also favoured by the army. In terms of camera design, IR cameras are available as bullet cameras, domes cameras, box cameras and pan-tilt-zoom cameras. 2. Bullet Cameras Bullet cameras can be used as indoor or outdoor cameras. Bullet cameras which do not have day/night capability and are not protected by weather-proof casing can be very small and cost-effective. They can be mounted on walls or on ceilings. Bullet cameras with infrared capability are typically larger, as are bullet cameras contained in weather-proof casing. Visibly, bullet cameras can provide a strong deterrent and they can also boast an impressive range of sight up to, and sometimes more than, 300ft. They are, however, vulnerable to vandalism if mounted in a place where they can be easily reached. It is also clear which way they are pointing and can have an exposed cable unless they come with a cable management bracket. 3. Dome Cameras Dome cameras have become increasingly popular in recent years. They are most typically found in retail stores, bars, restaurants and the home. Day/night capability and weather-proof casing are available with dome cameras which are often also vandal proof. Some of the advantages of dome cameras is that they are discreet, can be mounted vertically, horizontally or diagonally, and that they often have a tinted case which conceals the direction in which the camera is pointing. Increasingly, dome cameras boas a pan-tilt-zoom capability. Here the camera can rotate to follow its target when they would ordinarily have left the camera field of vision. This is particularly useful in dome cameras as their tintec case disguises the fact that the camera if moving to follow a target. However, if it is long distances that you need your CCTV camera to cover, other types, such as the bullet camera or the box camera, may be more appropriate. 3. Box Cameras Box Camera CCTV units are not discrete, and in the same way as the bullet camera, this has both its advantages and disadvantages. On one hand their visibility could provide a deterrent to would be vandals or thieves. On the other hand their visibility may be intrusive in an indoor environment and it is clear what they are pointing at. A large range of lenses are available for box cameras, meaning it is possible to have zoom and long-distance capability and they can also be covered with weather-proof casing. They are also relatively inexpensive but rarely come with IR capability.

I like to show people that there are lots of choice in cameras but give my reason for using the brands I do. No need to call back and look at the system if it works. Definitely worth keeping the dates and times updated so that you can go back and look at the footage and be confident that its correct.

AHD/TVI/CVI/IP - camera technologies Wireless - camera types (wireless are wifi but still require power) Hardwired Conventional analogue, run over coaxial with a separate power cable (shotgun) POC runs image and power down coaxial cable. IP runs over Cat5e/6 usually PTZ (pan, tilt zoom, these cameras often used to patrol grounds or zoom in on incident) ANPR (reading number plates) Fish eye (ultra wide angle lens needs dewarp functionality to make sense of images) Panoramic (multiple cameras making up one unit to cover 360 large areas from a single point). Low light (designed to give full colour images in very low light situations before IR kicks in for b&W image). Bright light (designed to stop glare in bright light situations, not usually a problem in the UK). Intrinsically safe (specialist cameras found often on oil rigs, speciality training is required and these are very expensive). Microphone - built in microphone 2 Way sound- built in microphone and speaker, often found on door bells or intecoms Some of these can be combined to give a particular camera, this list is probably not exhaustive either and is continually changing. Each technology has its own benefits and pitfalls , best to start with what you want the camera to be used for and then look to see if your budget is realistic, a domestic home is unlikely to have a PTZ/ANPR or intrinsically safe camera due to cost, although PTZ and ANPR are becoming more common in some areas on domestic dwellings.

Some aren't full HD, but that's the really cheap DIY Amazon, Ebay etc end of the market. They would be known as AHD for analogue HD, TVI and CVI for digital HD and IP for Internet protocol HD. After that you get camera style, bullet, dome, traditional body, PTZ, pinhole etc etc. Then internal, external, anti corrosive for harsh environments, and even explosion proof.

We fit hindered of types of CCTV cameras but only actually recommend a few. Quality of the image is important and as a rule of thumb the higher the MP of the camera the better. Additionally you need the right lens in the camera for the situation. A wide angle is good for covering a big area, but something more zoomed in will capture more details.
